As retail clothing giants scramble for footholds in the shifting sands of current consumer buying trends, giants like Aéropostale and American Eagle Outfitter will shutter more than 100 stores apiece (counting last year and this) in an effort to staunch their losses and remain afloat.

Avery Brewing Overflows Into New State-of-the-Art Facility in Gunbarrel

Adam Avery doesn’t shy away from superlatives. “We try to make the best beer in the world,” the president of Avery Brewing Company said. With the brewery’s new state-of-the-art facility, which held its grand opening Feb. 16, he’s added what he hopes to be a “world-class restaurant” to the mix, offering up “great food, great beer, great service, in a great ambiance.” The brewery which Avery co-founded with his father, Larry, boasts 30 beers on tap.

Rockin’ Robin’s Retro & Resale owner, Robin Abb, pours a sample in one of the Let’s Wine about Winter signature mugs, free to event attendees with their $25 ticket price. Even blizzard conditions didn’t keep people away from the inaugural, store-to-store wine tasting event held in Niwot on Saturday, Feb. 21. According to ticket sales, 147 people came out to sample wine from local vintners, importers and liquor stores in close to 30 participating businesses. Host stores were located in both the downtown and Cottonwood Square shopping districts.

Hans Kissner began his hair-styling career by sweeping floors and sterilizing the tools of the trade in his father’s shop in rural north central Germany in 1953. Just 15 years old, he eventually graduated to shaving beards with a straight razor.

Niwot Girls Close With OT Win Over Centaurus

Niwot’s girls closed out a 10-13 season at home with a 46-42 win over Centaurus Feb. 20. The Cougars honored seniors Jami Albert, Laila McCaffrey, Hannah Sarosi, Monica Pilewskie and Daisy Perez at halftime. Perez, who played sub-varsity in her first season as part of the progam, joined the other four veteran players who helped Niwot to its best season in years.

Niwot Boys Basketball Secures Trip to Playoffs

In the final game of the regular season Feb. 20, the Niwot boys basketball team played a game full of emotion, in what they considered a must-win contest. The game was preceded by a senior night ceremony, honoring seniors Justin Lee, Trey Hill, Jonny Drake, Brendan Gray, Jason Seper, Charlie Mitelhaus and Jared Hart.
